Global Accelerator:Add and manage acceleration areas

Last Updated:Jun 08, 2026

An acceleration area is the geographic region where GA accelerates client access. Select a region close to your clients to reduce latency.

Background

GA instances with an Acceleration IP type of EIP support configuring acceleration areas. Instances with the Anycast Elastic IP Address type do not support adding or deleting acceleration areas. You can only edit the bandwidth uniformly for all regions.

Prerequisites

Add acceleration area

  1. Log on to the GA console.

  2. On the Instances page, find the GA instance that you want to manage and click its ID.

  3. On the instance details page, click the Acceleration Areas tab and then click Add Acceleration Area.

  4. In the Add Acceleration Area dialog box, configure the parameters for the acceleration area and click OK.

    Parameter

    Description

    Select Acceleration Region

    Select the regions to accelerate.

    Area-to-region mappings: Acceleration areas.

    Note
    • If the client is in a region that is not supported by GA, you can select the nearest acceleration region. Client traffic can enter the Alibaba Cloud acceleration network from the selected acceleration region through the accelerated IP address or CNAME.

    • For subscription instances, available acceleration regions depend on bandwidth and instance specification. Standard Global Accelerator instances.

    Assign Bandwidth

Select a bandwidth allocation method. Available only for instances with multiple acceleration regions.

    • Allocate Bandwidth by Region: Set different bandwidth values per region.

    • Allocate Bandwidth: Apply the same bandwidth to all regions. Configure the first region; other regions inherit the value.

    Bandwidth

Set the bandwidth (Mbps) for the acceleration region.

    • Pay-as-you-go: 2 to 10,000 Mbps per region.

    • Subscription: total bandwidth across all regions cannot exceed the basic bandwidth plan peak. Minimum per region: 2 Mbps.

    Note

For subscription instances, total bandwidth should not exceed the instance specification limit.

Allocation limits and examples: Bandwidth of acceleration regions.

    IP Protocol

Select the IP protocol for access.

    • IPv4: Allocates an IPv4 accelerated IP address. This allows IPv4 clients to connect to the GA network.

    • IPv6: Allocates an IPv6 accelerated IP address. This allows IPv6 clients to connect to the GA network and enables the IPv6 Translation Service.

    • Dual-stack: Allocates both an IPv4 and an IPv6 accelerated IP address. This allows both IPv4 and IPv6 clients to connect to the GA network.

    ISP Line Type

Select an ISP line type. Available only for pay-as-you-go instances.

    • BGP (Multi-ISP): BGP (Multi-ISP) provides high-quality BGP lines that cover multiple regions across the globe. It connects to the networks of multiple carriers and automatically selects the optimal route to ensure fast and stable access.

All acceleration regions support and use the BGP (Multi-ISP) type by default.

    • BGP Pro: BGP Pro is a premium network line that optimizes traffic from regions outside the Chinese mainland to the Chinese mainland. It improves the quality of international connections. Compared with standard BGP (Multi-ISP) lines, BGP Pro lines provide lower latency when they serve clients in the Chinese mainland (excluding data centers in the Chinese mainland) because they are directly connected to the Chinese mainland through premium carrier networks.

Currently, GA supports the BGP Pro type only in the China (Hong Kong) and Japan (Tokyo) regions.

    Cross-border Acceleration Settings

Read the Compliance Commitments Regarding Cross-border Data Transfers and select Agree to the Preceding Compliance Agreement.

This step is required only if cross-border acceleration is not enabled for your GA instance and your service configuration involves cross-border acceleration between the Chinese mainland and other regions.

After the area is added, the new region appears in the list.

    Note

A new acceleration area takes about 2 minutes to take effect.

Modify acceleration area

Modify the bandwidth of an acceleration area.

  1. Log on to the GA console.

  2. On the Instances page, find the GA instance that you want to manage and click its ID.

  3. On the Acceleration Areas tab, modify the bandwidth based on the IP address type of the instance.

    • EIP type: Click Edit Bandwidth. In the Modify Bandwidth dialog box, change the bandwidth for the target region (2 to 10,000 Mbps), then click OK.

    • anycast elastic IP address type: Next to Bandwidth, click Edit. Set the bandwidth for all regions uniformly (200 to 5,000 Mbps), then click OK.

Delete acceleration area

Delete an acceleration area to stop GA acceleration in that area.

  1. Log on to the GA console.

  2. On the Instances page, find the GA instance that you want to manage and click its ID.

  3. On the Acceleration Areas tab, find the acceleration area and region that you want to delete and click Delete in the Actions column.

  4. In the Delete Accelerated IP Address dialog box, click OK.

FAQ

Can I use Global Accelerator (GA) if my client is in a region GA doesn't support?

Yes. GA lets clients reach the Alibaba Cloud acceleration network from the nearest access point, regardless of whether their region is explicitly listed.

The setup depends on the accelerated IP address type you use:

  • Elastic IP Address (EIP): Select the acceleration area closest to your client when configuring the acceleration area. Clients connect to the Alibaba Cloud acceleration network using the accelerated IP address or CNAME assigned to that area.

  • Anycast EIP: No acceleration area configuration is needed. GA provides a single unified IP entry point across multiple regions worldwide. Clients connect automatically from the nearest access point using the Anycast EIP or CNAME.
