This topic describes how to install and configure Alibaba Cloud Toolkit in Eclipse. Before you deploy an application, make sure that Alibaba Cloud Toolkit is installed and configured in Eclipse.

Prerequisites

  • Java Development Kit (JDK) 1.8 or later is downloaded and installed. For more information, see JDK 1.8 or later.
  • Eclipse IDE 4.5.0 (code: Mars) or later is downloaded and installed. The program must be suitable for Java Platform, Enterprise Edition (Java EE) developers.
  • The version of the Target Management (TM) Terminal is 4.1.0 or later if the built-in TM Terminal is used.

Install Alibaba Cloud Toolkit

You can download and install Alibaba Cloud Toolkit from Eclipse Marketplace. If you cannot connect to the server or the download process takes a long time, you can visit the official website of Alibaba Cloud Toolkit to download and install Alibaba Cloud Toolkit.

  • Download and install Alibaba Cloud Toolkit from Eclipse Marketplace
    1. In the top navigation bar of Eclipse, choose Help > Eclipse Marketplace.
    2. In the Eclipse Marketplace dialog box, enter Alibaba Cloud Toolkit in the Find field and press Enter.

    3. In the search result, click Install in the lower-right corner of the Alibaba Cloud Toolkit section.
    4. Perform the subsequent steps as prompted on the installation page of Eclipse.
  • Download and install Alibaba Cloud Toolkit from its official website
    1. In the top navigation bar, choose Help > Install New Software....
    2. In the Available Software dialog box, complete the following configurations and click Next.
      1. In the Work with field, enter the URL for downloading Alibaba Cloud Toolkit for Eclipse http://toolkit.aliyun.com/eclipse/.
      2. In the Name | Version section, select the required components.
      3. In the Details section, clear Contact all update sites during install to find required software.

    3. Perform the subsequent steps as prompted on the installation page of Eclipse.

Verify the result

After Alibaba Cloud Toolkit is installed, restart Eclipse. You can view that the Alibaba Cloud Toolkit icon appears in the toolbar.

Configure account information

When you use Alibaba Cloud Toolkit to deploy applications to Alibaba Cloud, you must call API operations of Alibaba Cloud. When you call the API operations, you must use an AccessKey pair that consists of an AccessKey ID and an AccessKey secret for authentication in the cloud. Therefore, before you deploy applications, configure account information in Alibaba Cloud Toolkit. Perform the following steps:

  1. Obtain the AccessKey pair.
  2. In the menu bar, choose Windows > Preference.
  3. In the Preference (Filtered) dialog box, click Accounts in the left-side navigation pane.
  4. On the Accounts page, specify the AccessKey ID and AccessKey secret, and click Apply and Close.
    Note If you use the AccessKey ID and AccessKey secret of a RAM user to deploy applications to Enterprise Distributed Application Service (EDAS), make sure that the RAM user has permissions to deploy the applications. For more information, see RAM users in EDAS documentation.
