Bandwidth limits

An Internet Shared Bandwidth instance offers shared bandwidth that is provided by a cluster of servers. To ensure the efficiency and stability of data transfer, network traffic is evenly distributed to each server. The maximum bandwidth of an Internet Shared Bandwidth instance is evenly distributed to each server. The maximum bandwidth of an Internet Shared Bandwidth instance can be reached only if the Internet Shared Bandwidth instance is applied to multiple connections.

Maximum bandwidth of each connection = Maximum bandwidth of an Internet Shared Bandwidth instance/Number of servers in the cluster

For example, if the maximum bandwidth of an Internet Shared Bandwidth instance is 2,000 Mbit/s, and four servers are used to forward traffic, the maximum bandwidth of each connection is 500 Mbit/s (2,000/4).

Important
  • In some cases, the actual bandwidth that the Internet Shared Bandwidth instance allocates may be higher than the specified maximum bandwidth. However, these cases will be rare as the service upgrades. To prevent service interruptions, we recommend that you set the maximum bandwidth to a value higher than your bandwidth requirement when you purchase an Internet Shared Bandwidth instance.

  • If the maximum bandwidth of the Internet Shared Bandwidth instance that you purchase is higher than 1 Gbit/s, the bandwidth of each server is automatically throttled.

  • The maximum bandwidth value is not a guaranteed value. It indicates the upper limit of bandwidth and is only for reference. In scenarios where demand exceeds resource supplies, the bandwidth may be lower than the specified value.

Limits on inbound and outbound bandwidth

  • Inbound bandwidth: The system allocates bandwidth that equals the maximum bandwidth of the Internet Shared Bandwidth instance for inbound traffic.

  • Outbound bandwidth: The system allocates bandwidth that equals the maximum bandwidth of the Internet Shared Bandwidth instance for outbound traffic.

For example, if the maximum bandwidth of an Internet Shared Bandwidth instance is 5 Gbit/s, inbound and outbound traffic can be distributed at a maximum of 5 Gbit/s.

Limits on EIPs

Before you associate EIPs with an Internet Shared Bandwidth instance, make sure that the following prerequisites are met:

  • The billing method of the EIPs is pay-as-you-go.

  • The EIPs and the Internet Shared Bandwidth instance belong to the same region.

  • The line type of the EIPs is the same as that of the Internet Shared Bandwidth instance.
