Alibaba Cloud Content Delivery Network (CDN) provides several types of resource plan. These resource plans can be used to offset fees incurred during the use of Alibaba Cloud CDN. This topic describes the causes and provides solutions to this issue.

Causes and solutions

After you purchase CDN resource plans, you may be charged for resources due to the following causes. You can handle this issue based on the provided solutions.

  • Cause 1

The metering method of your CDN service is not supported. Resource plans of outbound traffic supports only the Pay-By-Data-Transfer metering method. They can be used to offset data transfer fees incurred by resources that are billed based on the Pay-By-Data-Transfer metering method. They cannot be used to offset data transfer fees incurred by resources that are billed based on the Pay-By-Bandwidth metering method.

    Solution

Change the metering method in the Alibaba Cloud CDN console. For more information, see Change the metering method.

  • Cause 2

You have enabled value-added services. Even if you have purchased CDN or DCDN resource plans and the billing method of your CDN service is Pay-By-Data-Transfer, you are still charged for value-added services.

    Solution

Check whether you have enabled value-added services such asHTTPS. Value-added services bill resource usage based on the pay-as-you-go billing method. Fees are deducted from your account balance. Alibaba Cloud CDN also provides resource plans for value-added services. For more information, see Billing of value-added services.

  • Cause 3

You have purchased a resource plan of outbound traffic for an accelerated region, but the data transfer fees are incurred in another accelerated region.

    Solution

You must purchase a resource plan of outbound traffic for the accelerated region to which the resource plan applies. Resource plans can be used to offset fees incurred only in the specified accelerated region. For more information, see CDN Resource Plans.
    • Resource plans of outbound traffic can be used to offset only fees on billable items that are incurred in the accelerated region supported by the resource plans. For example, fees incurred in Asia-Pacific 1 cannot be offset by resource plans purchased for Asia-Pacific 3.
    • Resources plans of outbound traffic purchased for mainland China can be used to offset only fees on billable items that are incurred in mainland China. These resource plans cannot be used to offset fees incurred in accelerated regions outside mainland China, including China (Hong Kong), China (Macao), and China (Taiwan). For example, the resource plan purchased for the Singapore (Singapore) region cannot be used to offset fees incurred in mainland China.
  • Cause 4

The actual amount of outbound traffic is higher than the capacity of the resource plan. For example, Alice purchased a resource plan of 100 GB for outbound traffic and the amount of outbound traffic in the month is 110 GB. The amount (10 GB) that exceeds the resource plan is billed based on the pay-as-you-go billing method. In this case, an overdue payment may occur.

    Solution

Purchase sufficient resource plans before existing resource plans are exhausted. Otherwise, overdue payments may occur. For more information, see CDN Resource Plans.

  • Cause 5

It takes some time for the billing system to issue bills. After you purchase a CDN resource plan, it immediately takes effect. However, it takes some time for the billing system to issue bills. For example, the bill for the billing cycle 06:00:00 (UTC+8) on October 10, 2020 to 07:00:00 (UTC+8) on October 10, 2020 may be issued at 10:00:00 (UTC+8) on October 10, 2020.

    Solution

After you receive a bill, check the billing cycle of the bill.
