To allow network instances that are deployed in different regions to communicate with each other over private connections, you must purchase a bandwidth plan and allocate bandwidth for cross-region communication.

Prerequisites

The network instances that need to communicate with each other are attached to the same Cloud Enterprise Network (CEN) instance. For more information, see Step 3: Attach network instances.

Background information

To allow network instances that are deployed in the same region to communicate with each other, no bandwidth plan is required. Therefore, you are not charged for the communication. You must purchase a bandwidth plan only when you want to connect network instances that are deployed in different regions. You must specify the areas where you want to enable cross-region communication when you purchase a bandwidth plan. Each area contains one or more regions. After you purchase a bandwidth plan, you must allocate bandwidth for cross-region communication through private connections.

Purchase a bandwidth plan

To purchase a bandwidth plan, perform the following operations:

  1. Log on to the CEN console.
  2. On the Instances page of the CEN console, click the ID of the CEN instance that you want to manage.
  3. On the details page, click Bandwidth Plans.
    The Bandwidth Plans tab
  4. Click Purchase Bandwidth Plan(Subscription) or Purchase Bandwidth Plan(Pay-As-You-Go).
    For more information, see Billing.
Note By default, you cannot purchase pay-as-you-go bandwidth plans. If you want to use pay-as-you-go bandwidth plans, submit a ticket.
  5. Set the following parameters to configure the bandwidth plan, click Buy Now, and then complete the payment.
    • CEN: Select the CEN instance to be associated with the bandwidth plan.

After you purchase a bandwidth plan, the system automatically associates the bandwidth plan with the CEN instance.

    • Area A: Select an area where you want to enable cross-region communication. An area is a collection of regions. Each area contains one or more Alibaba Cloud regions. After you purchase a bandwidth plan, you can allocate bandwidth for cross-region communication.
Notice You cannot change the specified areas after you purchase the bandwidth plan.
      Area Region
Mainland China China (Qingdao), China (Beijing), China (Zhangjiakou), China (Hohhot), China (Ulanqab), China (Shenzhen), China (Heyuan), China (Hangzhou), China (Shanghai), and China (Chengdu)
North America US (Silicon Valley) and US (Virginia)
Asia Pacific China (Hong Kong), Singapore (Singapore), Malaysia (Kuala Lumpur), Japan (Tokyo), Indonesia (Jakarta), and India (Mumbai)
Europe Germany (Frankfurt) and UK (London)
      Australia Australia (Sydney)
    • Area B: Select the other area where you want to enable cross-region communication.
    • Duration: Displays the billing cycle of the bandwidth plan. Default value: By Day.

This parameter is available only for pay-as-you-go bandwidth plans.

    • Billing Method: Displays the billing method of the bandwidth plan. Default value: By bandwidth.
    • Bandwidth: Specify the bandwidth limit of the bandwidth plan. Unit: Mbit/s.
    • Name: Enter a name for the bandwidth plan.
    • Duration: Select the subscription duration of the bandwidth plan.

This parameter is available only for subscription bandwidth plans. You do not need to specify a subscription duration for a pay-as-you-go bandwidth plan.

Allocate bandwidth for cross-region communication

After you purchase a bandwidth plan, you can perform the following operations to allocate bandwidth for cross-region communication:

  1. Log on to the CEN console.
  2. On the Instances page, click the ID of the CEN instance with which you associate the newly created bandwidth plan.
  3. On the details page, click Region Connections and click Set Region Connection.
    The Region Connections tab
  4. In the Set Region Connection panel, set the following parameters and click OK:
    • Bandwidth Plans: Select the bandwidth plan that you purchased.
    • Connected Regions: Select the regions to connect.
    • Bandwidth: Specify the bandwidth that you want to allocate.
Note By default, the bandwidth is set to 1 Kbit/s for testing purposes. You can specify a bandwidth value based on your business requirements. The sum of all bandwidth values set for cross-region connections cannot exceed the bandwidth limit of the bandwidth plan.
