Elastic Compute Service:Change the performance level of an ESSD

Last Updated:Mar 14, 2024

Enhanced SSDs (ESSDs) are a high-performance, SSD-based cloud storage solution. Performance levels 0, 1, 2, and 3 (PL0, PL1, PL2, and PL3) are available for ESSDs to meet storage requirements in different scenarios. ESSDs at different performance levels have different performance limits. You can change the performance levels of ESSDs based on your business requirements to strike a balance between performance and cost. This topic describes how to change the performance level of an ESSD.

For information about the performance of ESSDs at each performance level, see Block storage performance.

Precautions

When you change the performance levels of ESSDs, take note of the following items:

  • Make sure that your account does not have overdue payments.

  • If an ESSD is attached to a pay-as-you-go Elastic Compute Service (ECS) instance, make sure that the instance is not in the Expired state.

  • Before upgrade the performance level of a new ESSD, wait until the ESSD enters the Unattached (Available) state.

  • The performance levels that you can select for an ESSD vary based on the capacity of the ESSD. If you cannot select a higher performance level for an ESSD, you can extend the ESSD and then upgrade its performance level. For information about how to extend a disk, see Overview.

  • If you want to downgrade the performance level of an ESSD, make sure that the ESSD is a pay-as-you-go disk.

Billing

After you upgrade the performance level of an ESSD, the ESSD is billed based on the new performance level. We recommend that you select appropriate performance levels for your ESSDs based on your business requirements. For more information, see Block storage devices.

Prices vary for ESSDs at different performance levels. View the pricing schedule of ESSDs on the Pricing tab of the Elastic Compute Service product page.

Procedure

  1. Log on to the ECS console.

  2. In the left-side navigation pane, choose Storage & Snapshots > Disks.

  3. In the top navigation bar, select the region and resource group to which the resource belongs. 地域

  4. Find the ESSD whose performance level you want to change. In the Actions column, choose 更多 > Modify Performance Level.

  5. In the Modify Performance Level dialog box, set the Performance Level parameter and click OK.

    Note

After you change the performance level of an ESSD, the new performance level immediately takes effect without the need to create another ESSD or migrate data.
