DataWorks provides you with an exclusive resource mode, which allows you to purchase exclusive resources and assign them to workspaces to run nodes. This topic describes how to purchase, add, view, manage, and use exclusive resource groups.

Physical resources, such as the network, disk, CPU, and memory, on the Elastic Compute Service (ECS) instances of an exclusive resource group are completely exclusive to users. The exclusive resource mode has the following advantages:
  • Resources of different users are isolated.
  • Resources used to run nodes in different workspaces are isolated.
  • Exclusive resources can be scaled in or out. This allows you to configure exclusive resources flexibly.

An exclusive resource group can access data stores in Virtual Private Clouds (VPCs) in the same region and public endpoints of Relational Database Service (RDS) instances in other regions.

Note
  • Shared resource groups are default resource groups.
  • The peak hours for DataWorks tenants to run nodes are from 00:00 to 09:00 each day. If you use default resource groups during the peak hours, you share resources with other tenants.

In this case, other tenants may preempt the resources. If your nodes must be completed in time, use exclusive resource groups to run the nodes. DataWorks does not charge you additional fees for the node instances running on exclusive resource groups.

View exclusive resource groups

After adding exclusive resource groups, you can view basic information, including the expiration time, resource count, and resource group usage, on the Exclusive Resource Groups tab.
  • Expiration time: the time when the exclusive resource group expires, which depends on the billing cycle that you set when you purchase the exclusive resource group.
    • You can renew an exclusive resource group before it expires. If an exclusive resource group expires, you cannot use it in new nodes.
    • You can activate an exclusive resource group within seven days after it expires. If you do not activate the exclusive resource group within seven days after expiration, it is released.
  • Resource count: the number of ECS instances in the exclusive resource group.
  • Resource group usage: the usage of the exclusive resource group. Unit: percentage.

Manage exclusive resource groups

After adding exclusive resource groups, you can scale or renew the exclusive resource groups, bind them to your Virtual Private Cloud (VPC), or change the workspaces to which the exclusive resource groups are bound.
  • Scale out exclusive resource groups

If the usage of an exclusive resource group remains high or the current resources are insufficient to run your nodes, you can click Scale Out in the Actions column of the exclusive resource group to scale it out.

  • Scale in exclusive resource groups

If an exclusive resource group is sometimes idle, you can click Scale In in the Actions column of the exclusive resource group to scale it in.

  • Renew exclusive resource groups

Click Renew in the Actions column of an exclusive resource group to extend the validity period of the exclusive resource group.

  • Bind exclusive resource groups to your VPC
Exclusive resource groups are deployed in a VPC managed by DataWorks. To allow exclusive resource groups to access data stores in your own VPC, you must bind the exclusive resource groups to your VPC.
    1. Click Add VPC Binding in the Actions column of an exclusive resource group to open the VPC binding page.

Before binding the exclusive resource group to your VPC, authorize DataWorks to access your cloud resources in the RAM console.

    2. After the authorization is completed, click Add Binding.
    3. In the Add VPC Binding dialog box that appears, set relevant parameters to bind the exclusive resource group to your VPC.
Notice The exclusive resource group and the data stores to be accessed must be in the same zone. Select the VSwitch to which the data stores are bound.

If the exclusive resource group or your VPC is modified after the binding, click Unbind in the Actions column of the exclusive resource group to unbind it from the VPC. Then, you can bind the exclusive resource group to your VPC again.

  • Change the workspaces to which exclusive resource groups are bound

You must bind an exclusive resource group to a workspace so that the exclusive resource group can be used by nodes in the workspace. You can bind an exclusive resource group to multiple workspaces.

Use exclusive resource groups

After an exclusive resource group is bound to a workspace, you can allocate the exclusive resource group to nodes in the workspace.
  • Exclusive resource groups for scheduling
