Simple Log Service:Manage a dashboard in edit mode

You can perform operations on a dashboard in edit mode. For example, you can add chart elements, adjust the layouts of chart elements, edit chart elements, import chart elements to the dashboard. You can also change the name of the dashboard.

Prerequisites

A dashboard is created. For more information, see Create a dashboard.

Important
  • If you perform operations in edit mode, you must save the operations to apply the operations. To save operations, click Save in the upper-right corner of the dashboard page.

  • The operations that you can perform on a grid-based dashboard are different from the operations that you can perform on a free-layout dashboard. You can access a dashboard in the Simple Log Service console to check the operations that you can perform on the dashboard.

  1. Log on to the Log Service console.
  2. Go to the Dashboard page.
    1. In the Projects section, click the project that you want to manage.
    2. In the left navigation sidebar, choose Dashboard > Dashboards.
    3. In the Dashboard list, click the required dashboard.
  3. In the upper-right corner of the dashboard page, click Edit.

Add chart elements

Click Create Chart in the top menu bar and perform the following operations:

  • Add a chart

    Click the Chart icon to add a chart. For more information, see Add a chart (Pro) to a dashboard or Add a chart to a dashboard.

  • Add a rectangle or rhombus

    Click the Rectangle icon to add a rectangle or click the Rhombus icon to add a rhombus. You can double-click a rectangle or rhombus to enter text or modify the text attributes and border attributes of the rectangle or rhombus.

  • Add a line to connect chart elements

    Add a line to connect chart elements. Select a chart element that you want to manage. Click the Connection line or Connection line icon. Then, press and hold the left mouse button to connect the selected chart element to another chart element. You can click the Connection line, Connection line, and Connection line icons to specify the style, width, and color of the connection line.

    After you add a connection line, the connection line moves when you change the positions and sizes of the chart elements to show the relationship between the chart elements.

  • Add text

    Click the Text icon. Double-click the text box and enter text. You can modify text attributes including Font Size, Font Style, Alignment Method, and Font Color.

  • Add a custom Scalable Vector Graphics (SVG)

    Click the SVG icon. In the Customize SVG dialog box, click the box and upload an SVG file to the dashboard.

    Note

    The size of an SVG file cannot exceed 10 KB.

Add a filter

In the top menu bar, click the Filter icon to add a filter. After you add a filter to the dashboard, you can narrow down the search scope or replace placeholder variables in query statements. The filter takes effect on the query statements of all charts on the dashboard. For more information, see Add a filter.

Adjust the layouts of chart elements

In a free-layout dashboard in edit mode, all chart elements are placed on a canvas. You can drag and scale each chart element based on your business requirements. The width of the canvas cannot exceed the width of your browser. The height of the canvas is unlimited and is measured in pixels.

  • Adjust the position of a chart element

    • Drag a chart element to a position based on your business requirements.

    • Select a chart element. Specify values for L and T in the top menu bar to adjust the position of the chart element. Adjust the position of a chart element

  • Adjust the size of a chart element

    • Select a chart element. Drag the lower-right corner of the chart element to adjust the size of the chart element.

    • Select a chart element. Specify values for H and W in the top menu bar to adjust the size of the chart element. Adjust the height of a chart element

  • Configure the layer level of a chart element

    Select a chart element. Click the Move to the top layer icon to bring the chart element to the front or click the Move to the bottom layer icon to send the chart element to the back.

Arrange chart elements

Select the chart elements that you want to arrange and click the Arrangement icon in the top menu bar to arrange the chart elements.

  • In a grid-based dashboard, chart elements can be arranged by using the following methods: Equally Spaced Arrangement and Contour Arrangement.

  • In a free-layout dashboard, chart elements can be arranged by using the following methods: Align Left, Align Right, Align Top, Align Bottom, Equally Spaced Arrangement, and Contour Arrangement.

Switch between layout modes

Simple Log Service provides two layout modes for dashboards: Grid Layout and Free Layout. You can click Switch Layout to switch between the layout modes of a dashboard.

Important

After you switch the layout mode of a dashboard, the connection lines, collapsed rows, and positions and sizes of chart elements may change.

Add a collapsed row

In a grid-based dashboard in edit mode, click Create Chart in the top menu bar. Click the Collapsed row icon to add a collapsed row.

After you add a collapsed row, you can drag the row to a position based on your business requirements. The chart elements under the row are collapsed. You can click the Collapsed row icon to specify the name of the collapsed row.

Change the name of the dashboard

Enter a new name in the Dashboard Name field to change the dashboard name.

Import a chart element

  1. Click Import Chart in the top menu bar.

  2. In the Import Chart panel, select the dashboard from which you want to import a chart element and the chart element that you want to import. Then, click OK.

Manage chart elements

Select all chart elements in a dashboard, and edit, copy, or delete a chart element.

  • Select all

    Click a chart element in the dashboard and press Ctrl+A to select all the chart elements in the dashboard. After you select all the chart elements, you can delete or copy all the chart elements.

  • Edit

    Find the chart element that you want to manage, choose Configure monitoring and alerting > Edit, and then change the query statement and attribute configurations for the chart element.

  • Copy

    Simple Log Service provides multiple copy modes. You can copy chart elements from one project to another project and copy multiple chart elements at a time. If you copy a chart element, all the configurations of the chart element are retained.

    • Find the chart element that you want to manage and choose Configure monitoring and alerting > Copy.

    • Select the chart element that you want to manage, press Ctrl+C to copy the chart element, and then press Ctrl+V to paste the chart element. You can perform this operation for multiple chart elements at a time.

  • Delete

    • Find the chart element that you want to manage and choose Configure monitoring and alerting > Delete to delete the chart element.

    • Select the chart element that you want to manage and click Delete to delete the chart element. You can perform this operation for multiple chart elements at a time.
