Cloud Backup:Configure an alert rule for SAP HANA backup

By default, if SAP HANA backup fails or a backup client is disconnected from the server, Cloud Backup sends an email notification to the owner of the Alibaba Cloud account. You can specify alert contacts, alert contact groups, and alert notification methods.

Important

An alert contact receives an alert notification about one hour after a backup attempt fails or a backup client is disconnected from the server.

Step 1: Configure an alert contact

An alert contact is the recipient of backup alerts. To create an alert contact, perform the following steps:

  1. Log on to the Cloud Backup console.

  2. In the left-side navigation pane, click Notification Contacts.

  3. On the Notification Contacts page, click Create Contact.

  4. In the Create Contact panel, configure the Contact Name parameter.

  5. Select Notification Methods as Email. Click OK.

    After you select Email, enter an email address in the Email field and click Send. Log on to the specified email address and copy the verification code. Then, paste the verification code in the Verification Code field in the Cloud Backup console.

    • On the Notification Contacts tab, you can view the information about all alert contacts.

    • You can click Modify to edit the contact name and email address.

    • You cannot delete an alert contact if the alert contact is specified to receive alert notifications or added to an alert contact group.

Step 2: (Optional) Configure an alert contact group

You can create an alert contact group and add multiple alert contacts to the group. Then, you can enable the group to receive the same alert notifications. This simplifies the procedure to manage the alert contacts. When an alert is triggered, Cloud Backup sends alert notifications to all alert contacts in the group.

  1. Log on to the Cloud Backup console.

  2. In the left-side navigation pane, click Notification Contacts.

  3. On the Groups tab, click Create Group.

  4. In the Create Group panel, configure the Group Name parameter.

  5. Select the alert contacts that you want to add to the group. The selected alert contacts are moved to the Selected Contacts section.

  6. Click OK.

    Note
    • On the Groups tab, you can view the information about all created alert contact groups and the number of alert contacts in each group.

    • You can click Modify to modify an alert contact group.

    • You cannot delete an alert contact group if the group is specified to receive alert notifications.

Step 3: Configure a custom alert rule

Important

By default, Cloud Backup sends alert notifications to the owner of the Alibaba Cloud account by using emails. If you configure custom alert rules, an alert rule configured for the source instance takes precedence over an alert rule configured for a backup vault.

You can create the following types of alert rules:

Configure an alert rule for a backup vault

A vault-level alert rule applies to all the backup clients that are associated with the backup vault. Backup clients include the clients for Elastic Compute Service (ECS) backup, on-premises file backup, and on-premises virtual machine (VM) backup.

To configure an alert rule for a backup vault, perform the following steps:

  1. Log on to the Cloud Backup console.

  2. On the Overview page, find the backup vault.

  3. In the upper-right corner of the backup vault, choose Settings > Alert Settings.

  4. In the Alert Notification Method panel, select an alert notification method. Click OK.

    Disabled

    If you select this option, Cloud Backup does not send alert notifications.

    Notify Alibaba Cloud Account

    If you select this option, Cloud Backup sends alert notifications to the owner of the Alibaba Cloud account by using emails.

    Custom

    If you select this option, you must select one or more alert contacts or alert contact groups. Cloud Backup sends alert notifications to the alert contacts or alert contact groups that you select.

Configure an alert rule for the source instance

An instance-level alert rule applies to all backup clients that are installed for an SAP HANA instance.

To configure an alert rule for an SAP HANA instance, perform the following steps:

  1. Log on to the Cloud Backup console.

  2. In the left-side navigation pane, choose Backup > SAP HANA Backup.

  3. In the top navigation bar, select a region.

  4. On the SAP HANA Instances tab, choose More > Alert Settings in the Actions column of the SAP HANA instance.

  5. In the Alert Notification Method panel, select an alert notification method. Click OK.

    Description

    Disabled

    If you select this option, Cloud Backup does not send alert notifications.

    Same as Backup Vault

    If you select this option, Cloud Backup sends alert notifications by using the same method configured for the backup vault.

    Notify Alibaba Cloud Account

    If you select this option, Cloud Backup sends alert notifications to the owner of the Alibaba Cloud account by using emails.

    Custom

    If you select this option, you must select one or more alert contacts or alert contact groups. Cloud Backup sends alert notifications to the alert contacts or alert contact groups that you select.
