Regarding multiple IPs to an interface

Hi All,

Can we assign more than one IP to an interface ?
I am unable to see such functionality on alibaba cloud console.
It is there in AWS and Azure .

This is required if someone wants to failover IP from one host to other host.

Thanks
Manish

Please check the next link. A guide to create Elastic Network Interfaces and the limitations in terms on instances. Not very different as in AWS. I hope that solves your question!

No,  what i was asking. I have a single interface (eth0)  on my instance and  I want to assign one more private IP address to it so it can be plumb at (eth0:1).

So how to create/assign/generate secondary private IP address to an interface in console?
Means single interface having multiple private IP addresss.

This is possible in AWS.

I dont want to create multiple network interfaces.

Gotcha, I see what you mean. Currently seems like there is no way to assign multiple IPs to a single interface. Or at least I can't find it either.

HI @Manish

Can you please explain your purpose of assigning two IPs to single interface?

There is an option. You can create HAVIP inside VPC, and create a new private IP, so backend network knows this IP is valid and can be broadcasted on LAN. Then you can use that IP to assign as secondary IP on NIC. Check the ping from other LAN machine to see if secondary IP is responding.
