Is there a vertical upgrade on the ECS?

It says in this URL(https://www.alibabacloud.com/product/ecs?spm=a3c0i.7938564.220486.1.118deebb0Ecudt#ecs-Instances) that :"Generation I, II and III instance types cannot be upgraded or downgraded to be compatible with each other."

However, in this URL(https://www.alibabacloud.com/product/ecs?spm=a3c0i.7938564.220486.1.118deebb0Ecudt#ecs-scenarios) it says:
"However, as your business grows, with ECS you can scale up your server capacity or resize your instance configurations."

I'm a little bit confuse whether you can do a vertical scaling with the servers like converting a "ecs.s2.large" to "ecs.s2.xlarge".

Please clarify

Based on the document you pointed out, a restart is needed.

Downgrade configurations of Subscription instances(Whether this feature is supported depends on your ECS resource usage.)
The new specifications take effect after you restart the instance in the ECS console or by calling the Reboot Instance operation.

Could you confirm that vertical auto scaling is not supported by ECS?  e.g. adding more memory to your instance when the need arises without reboot.

The ECS instance come with predefined vCPU and memory.  you cannot just increase the memory only and without re-select a predefined set of instance.

you can see below document for more info.
