Basic of Cloud Computing

The revolution is in full swing. Cloud computing is revolutionizing the way businesses all over the world consume IT. To put it simply, cloud computing (or on-demand computing) refers to storing information and data on the internet rather than storing it on local servers or devices. Cloud computing enables enterprises to have on-demand access to a shared pool of resources thereby providing greater flexibility in delivering IT services. With multiple advantages like high computing power, reduced costs, high performance, accessibility, availability and scalability, cloud computing is not just an option for most organizations now, instead it is a necessity.
Cloud service providers manage the infrastructure at their end which helps enterprises to concentrate on core business and operations at their end.

Here’s a model that explains cloud concept in detail:

What are the three main types of cloud services?

-        Software as a Service (SAAS) is a software distribution model that allows vendor to host apps and deliver over the internet. is a good example here.
-        Infrastructure as a Servicer (IAAS) is very flexible computing model allowing automated deployment of servers, storage & networking. Vendors provide raw infrastructure here.
-        Platform as a Service (PAAS) allow customers to manage and run web apps without any hassle of infrastructure management.

What are they key benefits of cloud computing?

More and more organizations are migrating to cloud because of its flexibility in resource utilization, reduced or controlled operational costs, greater uptime guarantee, improved collaborative productivity etc. Here are some key benefits of cloud computing:

1.      Lower Capital Expenditure: As cloud computing reduces the need for on-premise hardware, companies can enjoy reduced costs in IT expenditure and maintenance costs.

2.      Scalability: The ability to scale on demand is one of the biggest benefits of cloud computing. When correctly implemented, organizations of all sizes can enjoy the power of auto-scaling without any human intervention. It is more efficient and ideal for businesses with fluctuating storage and bandwidth requirements.

3.      Device & Location Independent: Clou computing is device independent and does not restrict you by the device you have in hand. It is also location independent as you can access your data from anywhere using an internet connection.

4.      Increased collaboration:With cloud computing multiple users can access, edit, and share documents anytime, from anywhere. This real time file sharing and updates provide full work visibility and helps teams collaborate better.

5. Secure Storage Management: Data stored on cloud is safer than that on machines and there is no risk of losing it even if you lose your machine or it breaks down. You can even wipe data remotely from lost laptops so it doesn’t get into wrong hands.

6.      Better Reliability and Performance: Cloud computing ensures higher availability of data and resources for business continuity. Its advanced data backup and disaster recovery services ensure negligible downtime.

7.      Simple & Utility Based: It’s easy to setup and manage. Moreover, it is cost effective and has ‘pay as you go’ subscription based models.

8.      Highly Automated: Your cloud supplier takes care of regular software/security updates, so you don’t have to worry about system maintenance yourself and can freely focus on other important aspects of your business.

Cloud Computing relies on pulling from a pool of online and readily accessible IT resources to achieve greater economies of scale than most companies can get (or
afford) through traditional on premise data centers. Cloud computing enables enterprises to have an on-demand access to a shared pool of configurable computing resources such as storage, networks, servers, applications and services that can be rapidly provisioned. Moving to cloud helps enterprises avoid upfront infrastructure costs and improve efficiency, reduce overhead costs, and automate infrastructure deployment. The
question is no longer, if you should adopt cloud, but rather when you should adopt cloud.

Cloud computing is a model for enabling ubiquitous, convenient, on-demand network access to a shared pool of configurable computing resources (e.g., networks, servers, storage, applications, and services) that can be rapidly provisioned and released with minimal management effort or service provider interaction
