To celebrate a decade in Singapore, Alibaba Cloud invites the public to co-create a greener, smarter future through an immersive cityscape installation at Marina Bay

Singapore, May 28, 2025 – Alibaba Cloud, the digital technology and intelligence backbone of Alibaba Group, returns as key sustainability partner for the third year running at i Light Singapore (iLSG), Asia’s leading light festival, organised by the Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA).

This year, it presents Cloud City: Build with AI – an immersive installation located at the Mist Walk along Marina Bay – that invites the public to envision and co-create a sustainable future for Singapore with the power of AI and cloud technology. The exhibit also celebrates Alibaba Cloud’s 10th year in the country, marking a shared milestone in driving sustainable innovation for Singapore’s future.

“As we mark our 10th year in Singapore, Alibaba Cloud is proud to deepen our commitment to sustainability and innovation through this collaboration with URA for i Light Singapore. Cloud City: Build with AI invites everyone to engage directly with the transformative power of AI and cloud technology, helping to shape a smarter, greener future for the city. Together, we’re turning imagination into action and lighting the way forward for Singapore’s sustainable tomorrow,” said Hon Keat Choong, Country Manager of Singapore, Alibaba Cloud Intelligence.

The exhibit leverages Alibaba’s advanced AI video generation model—Wan2.1, which are designed to generate high-quality images and videos from text and image inputs. Visitors can scan a QR code, choose an AI-related theme to share their hopes for the future and transform their selfie into a futuristic avatar, generating a personalised animated video that showcases depicting their life in a futuristic, AI-powered Singapore.

This video is projected in real-time onto the installation, creating an immersive experience that transforms visitors into residents of Cloud City. Visitors can then download their personalised videos and share them easily across social platforms, allowing the message of sustainable innovation to reach beyond the festival grounds.

Unveiled earlier this year, the Wan2.1 series excels at generating realistic visuals by accurately handling complex movements, enhancing pixel quality, adhering to physical principles, and optimising the precision of instruction execution. To date, the open-source models have attracted over 3.3 million downloads on Hugging Face and ModelScope.

During the installation development process, Alibaba’s flagship large language model, Qwen, is utilised to enhance prompt inputs for creating high-quality videos. These videos draw inspiration from the company’s real-world AI applications across three key pillars, including AI-Powered Tech, AI-Elevated Life and AI-Transformed Cities.

For example, AI technologies are used in Alibaba Cloud's sustainability solution, Energy Expert, which automates data analysis, forecasts energy efficiency, and recommends carbon reduction strategies. It empowers enterprises to effectively measure and analyse their carbon emissions and energy consumption, while simplifying ESG reporting.

As an infrastructure provider for a green economy, Alibaba Cloud is committed to helping organisations slash carbon emissions with emerging technologies such as intelligence computing and AI technologies. Leading the forefront of this notion, Alibaba Cloud strives to achieve Scope 1, 2 and 3 carbon neutrality and commits to powering its cloud computing with 100% clean energy by 2030.
