Alibaba Cloud Simple Log Service (SLS) plans to gradually upgrade running Data Transformation (old version) tasks to the new version from July 1, 2025, to December 31, 2025 (Beijing Time).

Through technical iteration of the Data Transformation service, the upgrade to the new version will provide improvements in the following two aspects:

Significantly enhanced computational performance: In general data transformation scenarios, performance improves by more than tenfold, and the risk of latency in high-volume or data surge scenarios is significantly reduced.

More cost-effective usage: For the same data volume, billing costs are approximately one-third of the legacy version.

The following Data Transformation (old version) tasks are not included in this batch of upgrades and will be addressed in the next phase:

Data Enrichment: Associating dimension tables from data sources such as SLS Logstore, OSS Object, or RDS Table.

Cross-region data transfer involving different countries.

Change Impact

The upgrade process will automatically translate the DSL statements of Data Transformation (old version) tasks into SPL . For syntax comparisons between old and new versions, refer to the Upgrade SPL Syntax Reference. The original DSL content will be backed up in the upgraded task configuration and can be viewed on the Data Processing Task Details page in the Alibaba Cloud console.

Notes

After upgrading Data Transformation (old version) tasks to the new version, rollback to the legacy version is not supported.

During the full upgrade process, a latency jitter of 1–2 minutes may occur, but latency will be eliminated once the new version runs stably.

Monitoring and observation for Data Transformation (New Version) tasks depend on important logs and task runtime logs in the SLS service logs. Both are free to enable and use. If this configuration is not enabled for the task's Project, the upgrade process will automatically activate it and set the storage target to the current Project.

Monitoring alerts associated with Data Transformation (Legacy) tasks will be migrated automatically.

The automatic upgrade will be executed gradually. If you wish to manually upgrade to the new version earlier, refer to Upgrading to Data Transformation (New Version). Note that manual upgrades are not supported for Data Transformation (old version) tasks not included in this batch.
