【Product Change】Upgrade announcement for Terraform 2.0.0 Version

Change and Impact
Alibaba Cloud plans to officially release AliCloud Terraform Provider v2.0.0 on October 12, 2026. As part of this release, the underlying Terraform Plugin SDK will be upgraded from v1 to v2, providing better extensibility and long-term maintainability.
To ensure the stability of the official release, we will publish AliCloud Terraform Provider v2.0.0 Beta on July 27, 2026, followed by an 11-week public beta program. All validated features, fixes, and improvements from the beta will be incorporated into the official v2.0.0 release.
What's New
- Support for **Write-Only** attributes, improving the handling of sensitive information such as passwords, access keys, and other secrets.
- Support for **Diagnostics**, providing more accurate and user-friendly error messages and diagnostic information to help identify configuration issues more efficiently.
- Improved attribute state handling, enabling the provider to accurately distinguish between Null (not configured)and Known(including zero-value) states.
Upgrade Impact
Because Terraform Plugin SDK v2 introduces strictertype constraints, AliCloud Terraform Provider v2.0.0 no longer supports Map types containing multiple child elements.
As a result, this upgrade includes compatibility changes for a subset of Resources, Data Sources, and official Modules. See the **list of affected Resources, Data Sources, and Modules** for details.
If you plan to upgrade to AliCloud Terraform Provider v2.0.0, please review the following changes:
If your Terraform configuration uses any affected Resources or Data Sources, update the corresponding attribute definitions and references according to the upgrade guide to ensure your configurations continue to work correctly.
If you are using the official Alibaba Cloud rds or multi-zone-infrastructure-with-ots modules, upgrade them to v4.0.0, which is compatible with AliCloud Terraform Provider v2.
Module v4.0.0 will be released on October 12, 2026, alongside the official release of AliCloud Terraform Provider v2.0.0.
Operating Instructions
Users are required to inspect their Terraform Configuration for any Resources, Data Sources affected by this revision and update the Terraform Configuration as follow:
As an alternative to a global search, executing terraform plan allows you to locate the resources that require refactoring by analyzing the diagnostic output.
Resource Definition:"Error: Unsupported argument"+ indicates where the old Map syntax remains.
Attribute Reference:"Error: Invalid index" + indicates where old Map indexing remains.
Verify the usage of official Alibaba Cloud Modules ( rds and multi-zone-infrastructure-with-ots) and update the version to the Official Release(2026-10-12).
a.The main Module rds is not affected and sub-module need to be updated.
b. The main Module multi-zone-infrastructure-with-ots need to be updated.
