[Product Change] Self-Service Unsubscription announcement for SavingsPlan
Sep 24, 2026
Affected time
2026-10-15, Self-Service Unsubscription
Change and impact
Dear Alibaba Cloud Customer,
Greetings!
To enhance the flexibility of Savings Plan products, Alibaba Cloud will progressively roll out self-service unsubscription for Savings Plans that have already been applied to usage deductions, starting from October 15, 2026, 10:00 (UTC+8). Previously, Savings Plans that had not yet taken effect or had no deductions applied were already eligible for full self-service refunds. With this update, Savings Plans that have been partially used may also be unsubscribed through the self-service channel, where eligible.
Change Details
- Savings Plan products that have already incurred deductions can now be unsubscribed via the Resource Unsubscription page in the Billing and Costs console.
- The refund calculation formula is unified across all payment types (All Upfront, Partial Upfront, and No Upfront):
Refund Amount = Amount Paid − Amount Consumed
The "Amount Consumed" is recalculated based on the resources you have used, at the corresponding pay-as-you-go prices. Since the long-term commitment has been terminated early, the original discounted Savings Plan prices no longer apply.
- If vouchers were used at the time of purchase, the voucher portion will be refunded proportionally upon unsubscription.
- If the refund amount is less than zero (i.e., the Amount Consumed exceeds the Amount Paid), the difference must be settled. A supplementary bill will be generated — please ensure timely payment.
- A detailed breakdown of the unsubscription amount and its composition can be viewed on the Order Details page.
Examples
Example 1: All Upfront
A customer purchases a Savings Plan with All Upfront payment. The original order price is $10,000, paid with $2,000 in vouchers and $8,000 in cash. At the time of unsubscription, the recalculated Amount Consumed at pay-as-you-go prices is $6,000.
- Refund Amount = 10,000 − 6,000 = $4,000
- Cash refund = 4,000 × (8,000 / 10,000) = $3,200
- Voucher refund = 4,000 × (2,000 / 10,000) = $800
Example 2: Partial Upfront
A customer purchases a Savings Plan with Partial Upfront payment. The original order price is $10,000, with $5,000 paid upfront (all in cash). At the time of unsubscription, the recalculated Amount Consumed at pay-as-you-go prices is $6,000.
- Refund Amount = 5,000 − 6,000 = −$1,000
- The refund amount is negative; a supplementary payment of $1,000 is required.
Example 3: No Upfront
A customer purchases a Savings Plan with No Upfront payment. After a period of usage, the total installment payments made amount to $10,000 (all in cash). At the time of unsubscription, the recalculated Amount Consumed at pay-as-you-go prices is $15,000.
- Refund Amount = 10,000 − 15,000 = −$5,000
- The refund amount is negative; a supplementary payment of $5,000 is required.
