Entrance Plan Announcement on WebSocket Feature Adjustments for Edge Security Acceleration (ESA)

Background
Thank you for your continued trust and support of Alibaba Cloud’s Edge Security Acceleration (ESA).
Since its launch, ESA Entrance Plan has been dedicated to providing convenient and secure network acceleration capabilities for non-production scenarios such as personal projects, learning experiments, and development testing. However, we have recently observed that some users have misused the WebSocket functionality within the Entrance Plan for unauthorized purposes. This not only significantly deviates from the intended use of free resources but has also triggered regulatory compliance risks due to abnormal traffic patterns, thereby impacting the overall stability and security of our platform.
To maintain a fair and compliant usage environment, safeguard the experience of the vast majority of developers, and meet regulatory requirements, we have decided to optimize and adjust the feature scope of the ESA Entrance Plan as follows.
Adjustments
Starting January 13, 2026, the WebSocket functionality will no longer be available in the ESA Entrance Plan. Specific details are as follows:
If you are currently using the Entrance Plan and have already enabled WebSocket, you continue to use it without disruption.
For all new Entrance Plan subscriptions created on or after January 13, 2026, the WebSocket functionality will not be supported. This feature remains available in the Pro Plan and higher plans.
If you are currently on the Entrance Plan but have not yet enabled WebSocket, you will not be able to enable it after January 13, 2026.
If you are currently using the Entrance Plan with WebSocket enabled, but disable it after January 13, 2026, you will not be able to re-enable the WebSocket functionality thereafter.
Friendly Reminder
If your business genuinely requires WebSocket functionality, you may upgrade at any time to the ESA Pro Plan or a higher plan. All paid plans fully support WebSocket and offer enhanced performance, SLA guarantees, and dedicated technical support.
This adjustment affects only the WebSocket capability in the Entrance Plan and does not impact other core features (such as HTTPS acceleration, DDoS protection, WAF, etc.), which will remain fully operational.
We understand this change may cause inconvenience for some users. However, this measure is essential to ensure ESA can continue delivering a stable and compliant service environment for developers who truly need entrance-level resources.
We always value your feedback. If you have specific use cases or questions, please feel free to contact the ESA team via a support ticket or our DingTalk group. We will do our best to provide reasonable recommendations or transitional solutions.
Thank you once again for your understanding and support!
Let’s work together to foster a healthy and sustainable technology ecosystem.
