Target customers: 1. I/O acceleration: users who want to significantly improve the I/O performance of RDS instances without the need to upgrade instance specifications or application code. 2. I/O burst: users who use I/O latency-sensitive applications or I/O-intensive database services. 3. Data archiving: users whose RDS instances contain large tables that are infrequently accessed or modified and who want to store archived data on ApsaraDB RDS for MySQL instances to minimize costs. Features released: General ESSDs are the new storage type supported by ApsaraDB RDS. General ESSDs are compatible with all features of ESSDs and support the I/O burst, I/O acceleration, and data archiving features. The data archiving feature allows you to archive data from a database to an Object Storage Service (OSS) bucket. 1. I/O acceleration If you enable the I/O acceleration feature for your RDS instance, you can expand the size of the buffer pool of the RDS instance to implement cache acceleration and improve the overall read and write performance of the RDS instance. The feature significantly reduces the impact of I/O jitters of general ESSDs on an RDS instance and improves the stability of the RDS instance. General ESSDs are suitable for scenarios in which you want to significantly improve the I/O performance of your RDS instance without the need to upgrade instance specifications or change the business code. 2. I/O burst If you enable the I/O burst feature for your RDS instance, the IOPS of general ESSDs is not subject to the maximum IOPS of the RDS instance. This helps meet business requirements for burstable IOPS during peak hours. The feature is suitable for scenarios in which I/O loads are heavy and fluctuating. 3. Data archiving If you enable the data archiving feature for your RDS instance, you can archive the data that is accessed infrequently to OSS buckets. Compared ESSDs of performance level 1 (PL1), general ESSDs help reduce the storage cost by 80%. The feature is suitable for scenarios in which your RDS instance contains large tables that are infrequently accessed or modified.
