EWE Global Express is an international Australian owned company with a diverse service offering in multi-modal logistics such as air and sea, land transport, contract logistics and international parcel. The business enjoys a strong market position thanks to a clear focus on high value added segments such as IT-based integrated logistics solutions and e-commerce models. The organization was founded in 2010 by Sam Shan, a Chinese-Australian businessman, whose vision was to create meaningful connections between the western and eastern markets by focusing on digital innovation that would result in facilitation of international trade. This has been realized through the application of EWE’s proprietary IT system EWE’s diverse range of services include international delivery, intelligent warehousing and distribution, supply chain finance, and supply chain consulting services.

A key challenge when dealing with international clients, staff and branches is the ability to connect across borders and keep an expected level of network performance. This connectivity for China and the Asia Pacific region was a critical consideration and business challenge for EWE. The business was experiencing a reduction in the number of client orders due to the lack of connection from Australia into China which would have impacted the ability for EWE to grow into the future.

When reviewing a number of vendors for a suitable solution to address the business and IT challenge, Alibaba Cloud presented a unique offering in their Cloud Enterprise Network (CEN). This unique offering was something no other vendor could match. Cloud Enterprise Network provides a hybrid and distributed global network ideal for enterprise users with high demand on network coverage. With its stable transmission and next-generation network environment, the network provides high transmission speed and low latency for end-users. Alibaba Cloud allows a dedicated network link for clients to connect internationally which negates any network issues when connecting into China and Asia Pacific. Our Cloud Enterprise Network product is used to facilitate communication between VPC to VPC and VPC to IDC so that routing information can be learned and distributed automatically. This in turn achieves faster routing convergence and improved network quality and security. Ultimately this gives EWE peace of mind, superior network performance, and reliability for running its business globally. EWE has also migrated a number of infrastructure workloads onto the Alibaba Cloud platform which allows the business to expand and increase requirements using an ‘as you grow’ model. This creates a more elastic and agile environment for the IT part of the business and reduces the need for capital expenditure on hardware.

As the only Global Fulfillment Centre in Australia and Alibaba logistics partner, EWE has helped the broader Alibaba Group deliver a huge number of parcels, especially for the renowned Double 11 Global Shopping Festival. EWE were able to deliver when it came to the crunch, exquisitely planning the logistics part of the event and executed by a high performing team of only 85 staff in a 60-hour window: +100,000 orders, +170,000 units, an error rate of only 0.003%.
