Lion Parcel's Finance team previously relied on a manual process to record Delivery Order (DO) documents received from the Operations team. As shipment volumes continued to grow, Finance staff had to manually review each hardcopy document and re-enter the information into spreadsheets, resulting in a time-consuming, labor-intensive process that limited operational efficiency and scalability.

Key challenges included:

● Labor-intensive data entry: Finance personnel manually transcribed Delivery Order details from physical documents into Excel, consuming significant time and resources.

● High risk of human error: Manual data entry increased the likelihood of inaccuracies in document numbers, shipment origins and destinations, quantities, and weight information, impacting data reliability and downstream financial processes.

● Limited document traceability: Physical documents were difficult to organize, search, and retrieve, as there was no centralized digital repository for document management.

● Growing transaction volumes: As the number of Delivery Orders increased, the Finance team faced mounting pressure to process documents more quickly while maintaining accuracy and consistency.

● Lack of structured digital data: Delivery Order information needed to be automatically extracted, validated by users, stored in a centralized database, and exported into standardized Finance reporting formats to improve efficiency and reporting quality.

To address these challenges, Lion Parcel required an AI-powered OCR (Optical Character Recognition) capable of accurately extracting structured information from Delivery Order documents. The solution needed to support human validation, digitize and centralize document management, and seamlessly integrate with downstream Finance systems, enabling faster processing, improved data accuracy, and greater operational efficiency.

Lion Parcel selected Alibaba Cloud as the provider of Qwen-VL-Plus Model, which delivered superior accuracy on real-world samples, outperforming alternatives. The solution also offered:

● API call script or client application sends parcel-label images to Alibaba Cloud Model Studio, where Qwen-VL-Plus Model performs OCR on printed and handwritten content, and returns extracted fields as structured JSON.

● The parsed output is forwarded to the Backend Data Processing layer, which validates and normalises the fields, applying required rules.

● The result is sent into the Database and made available to Lion Parcel's downstream.
