Singapore is a city of stories, shaped by its history, defined by its landmarks, and brought to life through its people.

The SG WANders AI Video Challenge, powered by Alibaba Cloud’s AI WAN Model, invites creators from all backgrounds to reimagine Singapore through untold narratives waiting to be discovered. From defining moments and iconic places to everyday lives and cultural traditions, uncover the stories that make the Lion City unique.

Open to students from Institutes of Higher Learning (IHLs), including polytechnics and universities. A great opportunity to explore AI, build your portfolio, and showcase your creativity.

Themes and Judging Criteria

Participants may choose to create their videos based on one of the themes below

1 - History and Culture

    What to cover: Key historical events, changes, traditional festivals, origins of old districts, etc.
    Examples: Raffles’ landing, the Japanese Occupation story, how Mid‑Autumn or Deepavali is celebrated locally, the evolution of Chinatown or Little India.

2 - Landmark Stories

    What to cover: Stories behind famous landmarks, architectural anecdotes, significant events that took place at a site.
    Examples: The construction story of Marina Bay Sands, the symbolism and relocation of the Merlion, a heritage tree in Botanic Gardens.

3 - People and Culture

    What to cover:
    · People‑to‑people: Neighbourly help, inter‑ethnic friendships, community bonds.
    · Personalities: An ordinary Singaporean’s story or a notable figure (e.g., Tan Kah Kee, P. Ramlee).
    · Local brands/food culture: Origins of Bak Kut Teh (e.g., Founder’s, Song Fa), Ya Kun Kaya Toast, Tiger Balm, etc.
    Examples: A kopitiam stallholder’s long‑time bond with customers, how a Bak Kut Teh shop grew from pushcart to brand.

    Clear and strong alignment with the selected theme

    Storytelling (30%)
    Engaging narrative with a clear arc or unique perspective, beyond just factual presentation

    Creativity and execution (20%)
    Originality in concept, visual style, storytelling approach, and editing flow

    Factual accuracy (10%)
    Correct representation of historical and cultural information (supporting sources may be provided)

    Overall quality (10%)
    Clarity and polish of visuals, audio, subtitles, and overall production quality

Judges

Ken Xu is a Solution Architect Director at Alibaba Cloud Singapore, where he leads the Enterprise Solution Architect team. With a strong background in delivering enterprise cloud and AI-driven solutions, his expertise spans the media, gaming, and retail industries. He excels in AI innovation, enterprise application architecture, and the integration of complex systems, offering a wealth of experience in transforming business challenges into scalable, technology-driven outcomes

Chen Zhuo (Pax Chen) is the Founder and CEO of FizzDragon, a Singapore-based AIGC creative platform transforming film and digital storytelling. With a background in engineering from the National University of Singapore, she bridges technology and creativity to enable scalable, AI-driven content production. Under her leadership, FizzDragon has pioneered AIGC filmmaking, including Pirate Queen: Zheng Yi Sao, and built a global network of creators. She is actively shaping the AIGC ecosystem through education, collaborations, and innovation, with a vision to democratize storytelling and make high-quality content creation faster, more accessible, and globally scalable.

With over 15 years as a Lecturer at the Institute of Technical Education, Kenneth Ching is an expert in the area of 3D computer graphics and asset creation. An early adopter of Generative AI, he has spent over three years producing AI-driven short-form content. Kenneth is currently a member of the Dreamina AI Creative Partner Program, leading the intersection of traditional digital art and AI content creation.

Charles Lee is a Manager within the Diploma in Communication and Motion Design at Nanyang Polytechnic, School of Design and Media, where the programme is recognised among the top globally. With over two decades of experience in design and media he brings deep expertise in motion graphics, visual storytelling, and creative direction.

He has spearheaded high-profile collaborations with global brands such as Samsung, Rolls-Royce, and Nestlé Milo, as well as contributed to on-screen visuals for the National Day Parade. He is deeply committed to nurturing creative talent, having mentored students who have won prestigious awards such as the Crowbar, Promax Asia, and D&AD Pencil Awards. Charles is also an active industry contributor, including serving as a judge for the Crowbar Awards 2025.

Simon David Hunter is a Hollywood screenwriter and producer with extensive experience in the international screen industry. He has held senior positions across studio leadership, and industry organisations, and has made significant contributions to film, television and screen-based media development in Australia.

Chan Gin Kai is a Golden Horse Award–winning producer with over 28 years of experience in the media and entertainment industry. A specialist in international co-productions, he has led film and television projects across Asia, Australia, Europe, the Middle East and North America.

Gin Kai is the Founder of Silver Media Group, a pioneer in creative asset development and financing in Southeast Asia, managing more than 1,500 intellectual properties. He sits on the investment board of the Silver Media Fund, an investment fund regulated by the Monetary Authority of Singapore. He also co-founded EDEFI, a global community of creatives dedicated to values-based content.
