Introduction
This course is the 2021-2022 edition of our advanced hands-on troubleshooting session for Apache Flink streaming application developers. It extends the content provided by our standard troubleshooting courses, such as the Intro to Troubleshooting for Flink Developers being offered here. In this more advanced course we focus on cluster tuning, advanced serialization and state migration topics, and RocksDB tuning and troubleshooting. The course is enriched with tuning and troubleshooting demos from real-world problems we have encountered while working with numerous Flink users over the past years. We present Flink internals you need to know to find and fix these problems and tackle them together during the course. Hands-on exercises will allow you to put the newly acquired techniques to practice. These exercises focus on two things: (1) finding the causes for unexpected behavior in running Flink applications and (2) fixing these by either tuning your Flink cluster or changing the application code (Java).
Prerequisites
To make the most of this training, you should have Flink knowledge equivalent to the Intro to Troubleshooting for Flink Developers course, and experience managing Flink applications in production. In particular, you should be familiar with: ① Time and watermarking ② State handling and state backends ③ Flink's fault-tolerance guarantees and checkpointing ④ DataStream API and ProcessFunction ⑤ General Flink troubleshooting and optimization techniques
