Alibaba Cloud Becomes Linux Foundation Gold Member

March 14, 2017

Alibaba Cloud, the cloud computing arm of Alibaba Group, today announced that it has become a Gold member of The Linux Foundation, the nonprofit advancing professional open source management for mass collaboration.

"We're gratified to see Alibaba Cloud intensify its involvement in open source and look forward to strengthening our collaboration with the company," said Jim Zemlin, executive director, The Linux Foundation. "We believe the ecosystems we're working together to create around technologies such as security, data analytics, networking and virtualization will help Alibaba Cloud and others to create platforms that support rapid creation of differentiated services."

Alibaba Cloud is a contributor to many important open source projects, including The Linux Foundation's OpenDaylight Project and Xen Project. The company has also open sourced many of its own projects, including the Alibaba Kernel.

"As a Gold member of the Linux Foundation, Alibaba Cloud is committed to working more closely with the Linux community and empowering more developers around the world. We believe that, with the collective efforts of many parties to support the development of open source, technology will become more inclusive and more beneficial to society. " said Hong Tang, Chief Architect of Alibaba Cloud.

Alibaba Cloud joined The Linux Foundation as a Silver member in 2015, and has chosen to move to Gold membership to support its expanding work in the open source community. The resources provided to Linux Foundation Gold members, including consulting to assist with open source compliance, training and more, will provide Alibaba Cloud with knowledge and expertise to help the company further contribute to and benefit from open source.
