Alibaba Cloud Recognized as a Notable Vendor in Forrester's "The Web Application Protection Platforms Landscape, Q3 2026"

This blog post introduces Alibaba Cloud’s recognition as a Notable Vendor in Forrester's Q3 2026 WAPP Landscape, showcasing its robust web security.

Forrester, a leading global research and advisory firm, has released the report titled "The Web Application Protection Platforms Landscape, Q3 2026." Alibaba Cloud was recognized as a Notable Vendor for its Web Application Firewall (WAF) and unified Web Application Protection Platform (WAPP) capabilities.

The industry consensus has shifted — traditional WAF alone no longer suffices to cover today's application attack surface. Forrester defines web application protection platforms as "unified, integrated platforms that examine input to and responses from web applications, mobile apps, and APIs to filter application traffic according to defined policies; to detect and block application attacks, volumetric attacks, business logic attacks, and AI attacks; and to recommend and enforce security policies based on attack signatures, protocol standards, and anomaly detection." Beyond the WAF core, the bundle also integrates bot management, API security, and client-side protection, with layer 7 DDoS protection and AI runtime security commonly offered as add-ons.

The industry has settled on three baseline expectations. AI is now table stakes — it serves at once as a potential attack surface (e.g., prompt injection), a potential attack tool, a defining characteristic of inbound application traffic (e.g., agentic traffic), and a means of attack detection. Automation is non-negotiable - frontier models are compressing the window between vulnerability discovery and exploitation, so manual processes can no longer be the default. And security teams are collapsing under operational complexity - tool sprawl, false positives, and alert fatigue are driving demand for platforms that automate discovery, policy management, and response.

Alibaba Cloud WAF has evolved into exactly such a unified platform, covering the core use cases identified in the report - web application protection, API protection, bot management, compliance, and zero-day attack detection - and extending into additional use cases. In the report's Vendor Focus table, Alibaba Cloud selected AI attack protection, runtime application protection, and mobile app protection as its top three extended use cases.

At the product level, Alibaba Cloud WAF leverages a security large language model to analyze payloads across multiple dimensions and automatically issue allowlists, delivering real-time virtual patches against zero-day attacks. Its API security module automatically learns API structure and performs real-time masking of sensitive data. Bot management incorporates workflow learning and graph-model analysis to identify path anomalies and coordinated attack clusters. Client-side protection and layer 7 DDoS defense have been validated in production at million-level QPS. Natively integrated with Alibaba Cloud services, the platform supports unified policy management across hybrid and multi-cloud environments. In 2026, Alibaba Cloud further introduced capabilities purpose-built for the agentic era: a Security Operations Agent that shortens rule tuning from days to minutes; Agentic API Security and Agentic Bot Management; and native integration with AI safety guardrails and AI application protection for LLM traffic.

The industry direction is clear: web application protection has moved from a "WAF-centric compliance tool" to a "unified platform that converges bot management, API security, and AI attack protection," with AI and automation now serving as baseline capabilities rather than differentiators.

Alibaba Cloud will continue to build an evolvable, operable application security foundation for the agentic era.
