Alibaba Cloud International SMS Now Supports Go China Service (Whitelist Mechanism)

Eligible international customers are able to send SMS to mainland China under a whitelist mechanism

Understanding Go China Service and Its Requirements

We're pleased to announce that Alibaba Cloud SMS International has reintroduced support for Go China service with a whitelist mechanism. This service allows international customers to send SMS messages to Chinese mobile numbers, but requires specific qualifications and approval processes.

Whitelist Mechanism
The Go China service operates on a strict whitelist basis. Each customer UID must be manually entered into the internal system by our operations team to apply for access permissions. Important notes:

  • Currently only single UID authorization is supported (no batch processing available)
  • Approval alone doesn't activate the service - manual execution is required after approval

Prerequisites for Go China Service

Before applying, ensure your business meets these requirements:

1.Chinese Business Entity: Must have a registered company in China with proper qualification documents

2.Signature Compliance: SMS signatures must comply with China's domestic SMS specifications

3.Postpaid Account Only:

  • Prepaid accounts cannot use Go China Service (must convert to postpaid with credit control first)
  • Accounts with overdue payments/suspended service are ineligible

4.other Requirements:

  • Not available for China-only SMS senders, this indicates that the customer has a need to send SMS messages via Alibaba Cloud SMS to other countries at least.
  • Requires assessment by product operation team. Due to limited domestic resources and stringent SMS compliance policies in China, we need to conduct an assessment for Go China customers. Please contact sales representative for further consultation.

Step-by-Step Guide to Enable Go China Service

Follow these steps to apply for Go China access:

Step 1: Apply for Go China Functionality

  • Provide your UID to the product operations team for whitelist application
  • Internal review typically takes 1-2 business days

Step 2: Submit Qualification Documents

  • After Go China Service is enabled, submit your business qualification documents through the Alibaba Cloud SMS console

Depending on the review status of your qualifications, you can perform the following operations on the qualification management page:

Step 3: Initiate Internal Approval Process

  • Your sales representative must initiate an internal approval process for document verification(Required because international customer information cannot be automatically transferred to the domestic SMS review team)

Step 4: Submit SMS Content for Review

  • After qualification approval, submit your SMS signatures and templates for review
  • These must comply with China's domestic SMS content regulations

Important Considerations

When applying for Go China SMS service, please note:

System Constraints

  • The access layer has built-in validation rules that will block non-compliant applications
  • Attempting to bypass requirements will result in final execution failure

Common Pitfalls

1.Account Type Issues:

  • Prepaid accounts must first enable credit control and convert to postpaid
  • Ensure no outstanding balances or service suspensions

2.Documentation Requirements:

  • Prepare all Chinese business registration documents in advance
  • Review signature specifications carefully before submission

3.Processing Time:

  • While whitelisting takes 1-2 working days, full approval may take longer depending on document review,it’s usually around 7-10 working days
  • Plan your SMS campaigns accordingly

The Significance of Go China Whitelist Reactivation

The reintroduction of Go China service with whitelist controls represents:

  1. Regulatory Compliance: Ensures all China-bound SMS meets local regulations and content standards
  2. Quality Assurance: Maintains high delivery success rates by vetting senders
  3. Fraud Prevention: The whitelist mechanism helps prevent spam and fraudulent messages
  4. Market Access: Provides legitimate international businesses a compliant channel to reach Chinese customers

For businesses needing to communicate with Chinese users, this service reopening offers valuable connectivity while maintaining necessary oversight. We recommend starting your application process early to accommodate the approval timeline.
