Switching from a legacy web hosting solution to a cloud-based environment is probably the most stressful for many businesses. However, if you have made all the necessary preparations for your migration, you have nothing to worry about.
The traffic switch stage is probably the simplest phase, in terms of its technical complexity. Here are the steps you should take to make sure everything goes to plan when you make the switch:
Before you switch to your cloud-based system, you need to agree on your migration date and verify your Migration Implementation. You are highly recommended to plan your migration date during a time when you anticipate low traffic volumes on your website or application.
Your verification tests will depend on the exact nature of your web hosting migration. Most businesses will need to verify their data migration implementation. For example, if you have migrated your local database to ApsaraDB for RDS and your file systems and videos to Object Storage Service (OSS), you could use the Alibaba Cloud data comparison tool to verify the data consistency between your source database and the target database.
You will also need to complete a range of functional and performance tests, according to the testing cases outlined in your system design. All these tests should verify that the Migration Implementation stage was successful and give you the green light to go ahead with your cutover.
We are now in the final phase of the web hosting migration process. You can cutover your web hosting application to the Alibaba Cloud platform.

During the cutover stage, it's important to allow adequate time and to try to do things in a concurrent manner. For example, to migrate a WordPress website to Alibaba Cloud, you just need to follow three simple steps:
1. Migrate your compute service: You need to make sure your system meets the ECS migration requirements, create a custom image, change the system disk and run your ECS.
2. Migrate your database: Simply create a migration task and modify the necessary configurations of your WordPress database.
3. Migrate your storage: Use the Alibaba Cloud OSSImport tool to migrate your data and mount the OSS bucket to WordPress.
Your migration should now be complete. You need to make sure your website or web application is up and running by visiting the public IP address of the instance you installed and configured.
For instance, you may want to log onto your WordPress site and create a new post to ensure you can successfully upload new text, images and videos, and view content that you added before your migration. In Alibaba Cloud, you can also log onto the OSS console and check any new files are also available in the OSS bucket.
After traffic has been successfully switched to the cloud platform, the system will officially enter the next stage of Operations and Management.

I completed my migration to Alibaba Cloud by myself. It is an interesting journey. I document the steps and details from the previous vendor. I also make sure that I have enough time to back up and back down in case it does not work. Some hiccups here and there. But finally I resolved it. It can serve as a reference point for others.
